Amani Vineyards show ongoing support for the Breast Clinic, Tygerberg Hospital
published on:

Since 2009, Amani Vineyards has set aside R1 for every bottle of Chardonnay sold, as a donation to the Transport Fund at the Breast Clinic, Tygerberg Hospital in Bellville.

Over two thirds of the women diagnosed with breast cancer at the clinic have a very low income, if any at all, and therefore struggle to cover the transport costs to and from the hospital. After speaking to Professor Justus Apffelstaedt, FCS (S.A.) and his team at the Breast Clinic, Lynde and Rusty Myers from Amani Vineyards identified this need for funding as a priority and pledged to help breast cancer patients get to the hospital for their treatment.

When asked about this initiative Rusty Myers said: "Lynde and I hope to provide a means for a few Breast Cancer patients to get to the care that may save their lives. It is a small thing that we hope will continue to grow through the help of clients like Tsukasa Miyake of Masuda Co.Ltd, of Japan, who now gives R1 for every bottle of Amani wine they buy. We thank them for pushing the initiative to a new level."

Last year Amani Vineyards donated R27 808 and on 18 January 2011 they handed over a second cheque for R11 200. This is a result of Chardonnay sold both locally and further a field, in countries such as Japan, Sweden and the United States.

When Professor Apffelstaedt accepted the cheque from Amani Vineyards at Tygerberg Hospital he said, "on behalf of the Breast Clinic at Tygerberg Hospital I extend a huge thank you to Lynde and Rusty Myers and the rest of the Amani team for their ongoing contribution to a much needed cause."
